I know this is a dealer job only!

Does anyone know

a: how to remove the high level brake light

b: Why only two bulbs may be lit

c: how do you change the bulb

I can easily believe that ford would say you have to change the entire component and charge a fortune

Now down to one!

Is this prone to failure or could it be another problem?

Thought it could not be the wiring which has affected many as that results in no light at all.

Perhaps someone knows how they are constructed v- but I thought they were LED's so maybe new LED's can be fitted. I don't know how it comes off however.

Wish it was that easy on the MKII cover is sort of intergral to the tailgate, cant see any clips to remove it.

I can just about get my fingers onto the gap where the light unit is but cannot feel any clips to release.

wish I had a copy of elsa win or TIS

Dunno how to get cover off j but if the LED's are all in parallel its a good chance if several blow that the rest will blow due to LED's being current sensitive devices. It just depends if any protection is built into the lighting circuit.

Additional brake light

Removing and installing additional brake light bulb holder 06.00 >

Removing:

‒ First switch off ignition and all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

‒ Removing upper and lower tailgate trim

Remove securing screws -arrows-.

‒ Pull off connector -1-

→ Unclip bulb housing at both short sides -arrow

rbl2.png

→ Unclip bulb holder on both long sides -arrows

Note:

On the bulb holder there is a circuit board with 18 soldered LEDs which are covered by a plastic strip.

Changing an individual LED is not possible, the bulb holder must be renewed complete in cases of repair.

umm would be tempted to try and replace individuals lets us know how it looks

Removing upper trim panel

Removing:

‒ Unclip trim panel -1- sides from clips -2- first, then unclip upper area.

Clips

Check for damage and if necessary renew before installing trim surround.

Its likely to be a dry joint or cracked track/PCB. LEDs are lifetime parts. Strip it down, inspect, fix......

Thanks Nik

I will have a better look at it when the monsoon has passed.

I am getting a copy of TIS and Elsa win for future use as they seem invaluable.

Thanks to Nik I got the light unit out and stripped it down to the pcb with the leds attached.

All resistors were good and every led worked on their own but no luck in finding the fault.

There were 3 lit at each end at only half brightness.

Sorry m8, I think you'll find they're not lifetime parts ..... changed a few myself but not on the Gal.
